Large, leafy, and shiny plants are so adorable that you will fall in love with them. The prince of this leafy kingdom is philodendron and we are going to share my favorite plant of the Araceae family Philodendron Atabapoense. It’s a climbing vine native to Venezuela and Brazil. Like most climbing vine Atabapoense requires some kind of support to grow at its full potential all it demands is your little attention and care to create lush and green foliage.
Is philodendron atabapoense rare?
Yes, it’s a rare plant and works great as a focal plant that attracts plant collectors. If you are a plant collector and Philo is your first love then you must look for Philodendron White Knight for an aesthetic look If you are looking for a Vibrant and showy Philo you can read my article on Philodendron Red Sun.
There’s one more plant in the philodendron family that looks identical to Atabapoense philodendron, there are high chances you can confuse between Billietiae and Atabapoense.
So, What is the difference between philodendron Billietiae and Atabapoense?
The leaf and structure of both plants are almost similar but you can differentiate between them –
- Billietiae has an orange petiole and stem.
- Atabapoense has green stem and petiole.
This popular tropical plant attracts plant enthusiasts because of its silky massive elongated leaves. Every plant has its special requirements to grow at its full potential. By giving the basic care you will enjoy its luscious foliage.
Soil
A well-drained soil with rich nutrients will ensure that your plant’s roots are free from root rot and fungal infection. You can also mix perlite and orchid bark for good aeration.
Before putting soil into a pot drill a drainage hole in the pot so that water can move out freely from the pot.
Water
Check the upper layer of soil before watering if it feels dry after touching then your plant needs water.
Overwatering and Underwatering Both are harmful and can lead to the yellowing of leaves. Accumulation of water in the pot can cause root rot.
Light
Philodendron Atabapoense thrives well in bright indirect sunlight. You can place them near a window or at any space where they can get sufficient light but one thing you have to care about is direct sunlight that can burn their velvety leaves.
Humidity
Atabapoense like humid environments using a humidifier or regular misting will make them feel that they are in their tropical home. Aim to maintain 60 % humidity.
What fertilizer is good for philodendron?
Liquid nitrogen-enriched fertilizers made for green houseplants are perfect for any philodendron plant. The best time for feeding is in spring and summer.
Propagation & Pests
You can easily propagate these plants using stem cutting. Just get a clean cut below the root nodes and place them in water until you start seeing thin hair-like roots then you can plant them directly into the soil.
If You are looking to purchase this plant from the online store then you can check Carnivero products where they are selling Philodendron Atabapoense ( small ) at an existing price of $ 24.99.
Checking your plants for unfriendly guests in your garden is really necessary pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs can harm your plants, and spraying neem will treat the infested area.
